Week of Home Visits!

Wednesday was Stormy's home visit... she has joined a wonderful family with two young girls and a dachshund/pug mix, Chloe, that's a few months older than Stormy but a little smaller than she is now. I think she'll live a long and happy life with the girls and a fur-sibling. I'm so happy for sweet Stormy but Adam and I will miss her dearly.

This coming Saturday Julia is going to her home visit to a couple that's "experts" on Chihuahuas and have the biggest, kindest hearts I've ever heard of. They understand her and what she needs and will be patient with her coming out of her shell with their crew of chi's they already have. I'm really looking forward to meeting the Ealums! AND their furbabies!

ALSO this week we gained a new foster, Addison, Addy for short and she's a 13 weeks old Doberman mix that her previous owners let her ride in the back on a pick up and she fell out, shattered her back leg... long story short, he wanted her PTS, the vet didn't and with donations removed the leg (only option) and NOW she's at our house "recovering" (running circles around the 4 legged crew! lol

updates!

Julia- is finishing her week 3 of 4 on crate rest! doing so much better, really coming out of her shell and very silly!!! Adam and I do feel she should be in a chihuahua home or be the only dog. She's terrified of Cameron, barks and growls at Bay Leigh and Maggie but doesn't mind Jack Cat at all.

Stormy- is still looking for a foster home! She's temporarily at our house! Her brother and sister, Ace and Star are in foster homes and will be available for adoption once they're neutered/spayed at 16 weeks. Pearl the other sister is in a foster-to-adopt and will be adopted once spayed. yay Pearl!

Petey- went to the vet yesterday, down from 140 to 124, no cancer, no cysts, no hip dysplasia...arthritis on his knees and hips though and on an anti-inflammatory for a week and then as needed from there... he will continue to take pride in being the rescue's mascot

BJC Jelly Belly soon to be Julia

Peace, Love and Dog Paws Rescue works closely with BJC animal control to save dogs that have been strays, abandoned or neglected from a sad destiny and this little one pulled at my heart! She's tiny like my sweet Bella, but timid because someone broke her trust (possibly her heart too) and neglected to give her monthly heartworm preventative so she IS light HW+ and we don't believe she's been spayed either but with a trip to the vet for a check up, vaccinations, a 2 day treatment, and surgery plus love, attention and socializing from a foster home she'd be a perfect little love bug in no time.
She has many silly quirks similar to Bella (must be a chihuahua thing) and those big brown eyes could melt anyone's heart.
PL&DPR can't afford all the vetting to save as many as they'd like so a chip-in has been set up to get funds to support and provide for these angels. No donation is too small and donations of $25+ are tax deductible!

Don't breed or buy while homeless pets die! Please give your pets heartworm preventative every month, year round.

ALSO, PL&DPR is always in need of qualified foster homes! If you're interested please go to the website and check out the foster page!

PL&DPR will be at Do Dah Day May 15, 2010 11-5 at Caldwell park, stop by to meet the rescue, the adoptable dogs, buy a t-shirt or frame or make a donation to help a life.

YAY! for Stanley!

Stanley has found his furever home to be fattened up and spoiled by a wonderful mommy. Stanley and I went last Saturday to meet Ms. Beers and she was lovely, has a beautiful home and a wonderful heart. Stanley made himself right at home settling in and napping on the couch while we chatted. He's a sweetheart and I think he'll be very happy in his new home.

Pound to Pampered Pup! Go Stanley!

We will miss our cuddle, bed buddy but know he'll be keeping his new mom warm and loved

updates

Well Petey is steadily losing fat and building muscle and he's such a handsome, sweet boy.

Stanley is gaining weight quickly (17 to 20 lbs in 2 weeks) and has a home visit Saturday with a potential furever home. go Stanley!

Adam and I took Petey, Stanley, and PL&DPR pups (Stormy, Pearl, Ace and Star) to Celebrate Hoover Day this past Sunday. I wanted to socialize Petey and of course the rescue had a booth so the adoptables needed to be there to meet people. The pups did very well with their first car ride, only one got car sick (drooled) and they were a hit with the public. Stanley did well too and met a few potential homes too but the event was called short because of weather and we quickly left, just avoided getting wet and came home.

Stanley

I'd like to introduce our new foster for Peace, Love & Dog Paw Rescue! Stanley!
Stanley was pulled from BJC Friday and came to our house Friday night.

He was so matted and so terrified of being groomed it took me 4 hours to groom him. But he's a cutie now!
He's approx. 2 years old, neutered, UTD, housebroken (no accidents so far), Havanese mix. Sweet as pie, easy going, does ave abandonment issues but we're working on him trusting that we're coming home. He's about 8 lbs under weight so we're fattening him up and he gets along fine with all the dogs (3-132 lbs) and the cat. Will give kisses and loves to sleep under the covers at the foot of the bed. he will chase a toy but doesn't bring it back yet. He takes treats softly but will swallow your finger for Kraft singles. He also like to get a stuff toy and he hides it under him as best he can. he's very much a Velcro dog and like his harness and puppy shirts.

more updates to come on Stanley!

Also, PL&DPR pulled Belle a long hair dachshund mix, female, HW+ (has a sponser for treatment) and will be spayed ASAP.

Becky will be fostering her...such a sweet, beautiful girl!

UPDATE! Belle has received her HW treatment and been spayed and will be available for adoption soon!

Petey UPDATE!
Petey has a FURVER home! He will be staying with us. Adam likes that he makes me feel safe when he's working late, I like that he's so gentle and we love him SO he's staying with us.

Petey, Petey, Petey

Petey is doing very well, quite full of himself at times and getting silly at night rolling around on his back and talking to us. He insisted on playing fetch/catch last night though it was driving Oscar nuts to the point Oscar was body checking Petey (133 vs 15 lbs) every time Petey would grab the hedgehog we were playing with but when he finally decided to rest, Oscar washed Petey's face for him and then settled down too.
Bella has began using Petey as a step ladder so she doesn't have to jump as far. Petey apparently doesn't mind and he and the cat, Jack are now friends more than enemies (though Petey is the friendlier of the two)

I believe Julie said this Saturday she'd be home so maybe we can do a home visit then and Petey will go HOME but if I'm mistaken the following weekend works too.
Adam and I are going to miss the giant boy but he'll be in a wonderful home of his own and not have to share all the attention... Love me some Petey!

4/23/10 I haven't been able to get in touch with Julie so Petey and I will not be traveling Saturday but we WILL be at Pubs & pups at Rojo (2921 Highland Ave South Bham, AL) this Sunday 4/25/10 from 1-4-ish if anyone would like to come meet Petey or any other adoptables!
