As some of you know my grandparents' home was broken into (repeatedly) and robbed a few weeks back. I've made it a priority to go over there at night trying to catch them but unfortunately we weren't able to. I've been calling pawn shops looking for Nanny's wedding band and engagement rings that were promised to me when I was a child....well the case has broken and I have found her rings including a dinner ring and I think we may have found Granddaddy's wedding bands too. I went today to identify and claim Nanny's rings and I'm wearing them now as I type this. I'm hoping to hear about Granddaddy's today or tomorrow. The guy that broke in has been arrested, his friend that actually pawned the jewelry is still out there but has multiple warrants out on him so I feel it's just a matter of time.
I have also done a great deal of research on locks, alarms, motion sensors and many of these have now been installed at their home. I'm sharing this because I want you all to be protected. The deadbolts on their home were older, the shaft part not as long as the ones now, apparently easier to pick than newer locks. There are locks you can put on manual garage doors now too. If you disable an electric garage door opener you need these locks or the door can just be opened. GE makes an alarm that sends out 120-150 decibel siren if the connection is broken (door or window is opened) and IT WILL WAKE you. Also ADT type alarms are available that help in case of robbery, fire or a medical emergency. I really don't think their house will be broken into again and I'm grateful I have ADT and a pistol.
These men are in their mid-30s, they're drug addicts, AIDS positive, ex-convicts; one is on parole that I know of. They had a stolen car, wrote bad checks, use stolen credit cards, pawns stolen jewelry, possibly still have a 12 service piece set of silver that they haven't pawned yet. They don't have weapons that we know of but at least one of them has AIDS and that's a weapon in itself to me. Because Dad and my family refused to wait and see we have one of them in custody now; hopefully both sometime this week.
We're not giving up, we're going to follow this through until they're both in prison again and i honestly hope they die in there not only because of their crimes but so they can't hurt another family like they hurt us. They didn't' just steal a few rings; they stole a part of my family; tainted something of my Nanny and Granddaddy's and broke my heart at the thought of losing their rings as well as breaking my Dad's heart for not getting those rings to me earlier.
I know they're drug addicts and they aren't thinking clearly but a thief is a thief and should be punished as one no matter the cause of the misjudgement. Who's to say their character wasn't flawed before the drug entered the equation.
Protect yourselves and your homes, any means necessary.
